Sales Representative upgrade to Property Manager

Successful completion of this course will provide registered sales representatives with the prescribed training requirements needed to apply for a property manager registration with SA Consumer and Business Services (CBS) from 1 February 2019.

Upon completion, students are awarded a Statement of Attainment for the following units of competency:

  1. CPPDSM4011A List property for lease
  2. CPPDSM4013A Market property for lease
  3. CPPDSM4016A Monitor and manage lease or tenancy agreement
  4. CPPDSM4020A Present at tribunals

CBS has advised:

Registration requirements for the real estate industry will not change until 28 September 2019 – however, property managers must complete the necessary training, apply and be granted a registration before this date to continue work.

CBS will start accepting applications for registration from February 2019. Property managers continuing to work unregistered after 28 September 2019 (and their employer, the registered land agent) may face penalties of up to $20,000.

Sales representatives should consider if they need to be additionally registered as property managers and make arrangements to complete the four additional units, if necessary. Sales representatives that have completed a full Certificate IV (above the minimum 17 units required for registration) may have already completed some of the additional units required.

Land agents should plan ahead and support their employees to undertake training over the next 12-18 months to ensure they and their business are compliant with the new requirements before mandatory registration.

CBS will continue to engage regularly with the real estate sector as we move towards mandatory registration on 28 September 2019.

Training and assessment

There is a combination of assessment tasks that require written responses. These include:

  • multiple choice questions
  • short answer questions
  • either 1 or 2 of the following:
    • case study
    • written demonstration
    • workplace project

Students are assessed as 'Competent' or 'Not Yet Competent', based on whether or not they have met the performance criteria for each element specified in the unit of competency they are undertaking. This method of assessment judges performance against a prescribed standard, not against other students.

Assessment of students' work is conducted within approximately 48 hours of submission.
